Z Pie - Gallo Grown x Hushle
If you haven’t been living under a rock for the past two years you’ve probably seen Raw Genetics’ Z Pie on many menus and probably some podiums. Smokey Bodega’s version won gold in the 2024 Billy Awards, and it’s been on the Don Merfos, Last Frontier and Wildflower Cannabis lineups. To the uninitiated, this flavor is very similar to a lot of other candies, but with a bit more kerosene and lime. Nugs arrived with expert trim and just caked in trichs, but the trichomes are more sandy than sticky, so the nugs feel a bit dusty. The trichs also had more of a golden tone to them over the neon green plant matter, which suggests to me that this may have been harvested at a later day than usual. Regardless, when you break the nugs down they’re perfectly fresh. The nose is almost dead on Biscotti, but the flavor is much more complex. When you do smoke it, you notice that compared to other candies the onset is more immediate and potency more prejudicial. Where most candies put you in a lean slump, Z Pie just melts you down. The flavor is saturated in a way that makes you keep wanting to smoke it over and over, which will make you smoke through your jar too fast and may make you feel like kind of a degenerate. Overall, despite the ticket, it’s safe to say that Gallo has exceeded the hype with this Z Pie. It’s competitive with other high end living soil options and whatever Gallo took our of Hushle’s playbook makes this a very strong smoke all-in.
