Black Ya Hemi - Grandiflora Genetics

I’ve only gotten to try Grandiflora’s work from their California partners once or twice, but Black Ya Hemi hit the radar and I was immediately interested. I’ve used Grandiflora as the butt of some bagseed jokes over the years, but at this point Project 4516 has earned its spot as a west coast staple. Two generations down, Black Ya Hemi is a hybrid of the original Ya Hemi x Black Caiman, the former of which I enjoyed a lot the first time I tried it about four years ago. A lot of the genetics from when the original Ya Hemi came around were “candy gas” but Ya Hemi and Black Ya Hemi are just straight up candy. The flavor is exceptionally tart sweet, matching the scent, and it’s the sort of thing that older heads would smell and say something to the effect of “this smells like it’s for kids.” The effects are pretty dry-eye slumpy like you’d expect from this type of flavor, but like more modern candy hybrids it’s much smoother to smoke and is cleaner on the comedown than a lot of other similar genetics. The potency is formidable but not overwhelming, and also formidable is the lingering halitosis from the flavor. Overall, Black Ya Hemi is a strong offering from Grandiflora Genetics and Royal Exclusives, and is for sure one of the better flowers I’ve gotten from California. I think a lot of folks write off these Cookies-adjacent producers because they think it’s all mids like Cookies is, but the QC from Royal Exclusives as well as the curation from Terpy Dabber is remarkably consistent, so I recommend not writing this one off.
