Red Runtz - Untouchable Genetics
Last year I smoked Untouchable Genetics’ Blueberry Donut, and as Terpy often does, he wanted to show me the new batch to show how much the brand has changed since the last batch. Red Runtz is a strain I’ve enjoyed a bunch of times over the years, and after it won what I think was Ego Clash Barcelona 2023, I got a pack of the S1 seeds from Exotic Genetix myself. Like a lot of seed-release strains, every version selected by different growers is not going to express the same. Versions I’ve had in the past had a lot of Red 40/Kool Aid flavor, some are like sickly sweet in the nose, and this variance tracks with the cross of Red Pop Strawberries n Cream x Runtz. This version is almost all Runtz on the aroma but with a bit of the strawberry dreamsicle brightness on the back of the nose. The nugs are super fresh and reasonably resinous, and the nose is quite loud. On the flavor end, it’s basically the same as the scent, but has a little more of the sherb bite I’ve found from a lot of Runtz flavors. The effects are pretty predictable slump and lean, but the addition of the eclectic parts of the lineage. It’s quite potent and the onset is pretty fast, but it’s also got a bit of a burn on the end of the effect which is not my favorite. Overall, Untouchable Genetics made some really well-performing flower in the form of Red Runtz – the all-in quality is undeniable – but for the price I’m expecting something a bit more interesting than something that’s just good smoke.
